People
decide to to marry at a registry office for a variety of reasons.
They
may wish a quiet, timely and simple ceremony
- They
may not share the same religious beliefs
- They
may be divorced and unable to re-marry in the church
- Religious
convictions may have no meaning to them
You
can be married by certificate
- This
calls for a seven day residential qualification before visiting
the registry office
- Twenty-one
days will have to elapse between the day you visit the registry
office and your marriage day
You
can still dress up and be accompanied by the traditional attendants
- Ushers
will not be needed as registry staff will assist you
- Seating
will usually be restricted to about 30 people (check before
sending invitations)
- The
length of service is about 20 minutes.
Whether
you marry by certificate or licence, the notice to marry is
valid for only three months, and the wedding must take place
between 8am and 6pm
Most
registry offices are only open until noon Saturday and are usually
heavily booked.
